The first St Cross Chaplaincy Team was set up in 2012. Since then, each team has been highly effective in promoting the Catholic character of St Cross. Each team has successfully implemented new ideas and children taking on this role find that they not only deepen their faith but develop their skills in communication, group working and time management.
Each member of the team is formally commissioned as a School Chaplain at a Sunday Mass, with their parents and other parishioners present. Fr Philip asks for God’s blessing on their work of service to the school.
This year’s team are Cara, Millie, Asher, Gabriella, Jack, Maya, Daisy, Anna and Eva.
Here are some of their achievements:
Leading Key Stage Assemblies
Leading children in praying the Rosary during May and October
Weekly sharing of the Gospel (Wednesday Word)
Establishing a prayer book and praying for written intentions
Attending Westminster Cathedral for the Advent Service/Good Shepherd Mass
Sharing with other Chaplaincy Teams in Hertfordshire Catholic Schools
Making cards for children in Year 3 for their First Holy Communion/Year 6 for their SATs
Various charity fund-raising events
‘Saints’ Day’ lunch celebrations
Co-ordinating whole school initiatives, such us Romero Crosses for display in the Parish Crypt
