Chaplaincy Team
The first St Cross Chaplaincy Team was set up in 2012. Since then, each team has been highly effective in helping our school grow as a community of faith. Each team has successfully implemented new ideas and children taking on this role find that they not only deepen their faith but develop their skills in communication, group working and time management.
Each member of the team is formally commissioned as a School Chaplain at a Sunday Mass, with their parents and other parishioners present. Fr Julian asks for God’s blessing on their work of service to the school. On a Wednesday afternoon, the Chaplaincy Team lead each class in prayer.
Here are some of their achievements:
Leading Key Stage Assemblies
Leading children in praying the Rosary during May and October
Weekly sharing of the Gospel (Wednesday Word)
Establishing a prayer book and praying for written intentions
Attending Westminster Cathedral for the Advent Service/Good Shepherd Mass
Sharing with other Chaplaincy Teams in Hertfordshire Catholic Schools

- Together our academy children said being a Chaplaincy Team member means:
- Care for others before you care for yourself
- We are role models who follow in Jesus Christ’s footsteps to create a caring community
- Treat others how you want to be treated
- We bring kindness by always respecting the people around us and we make sure to always spread kind words and the Gospel.
- Follow in Jesus’ footsteps
- We care for the people in our school and staff. We respect and care for other people.
- Being caring and respecting opinions
- Teach others to be kind and love others
