Our Charity Works

" For it is in giving that we receive." St Francis of Assisi

We work with a number of charities as part of our support for the wider work of the Church.

At our school, we recognise the importance of following the call of Jesus to live lives with a commitment to the greater good. Through being committed to works of charity, we are developing in children their understanding of the responsibility that has been placed upon us to do what we can to show our support of and solidarity with all members of God’s family.

Our commitment to the support of those less fortunate than ourselves leads us to support both local, national and international organisations and charities in their work with those in need throughout the course of the academic year.

As part of our academy, and Lenten almsgiving we supported ACROSS on Friday.

Across organises pilgrimages of a lifetime to the Catholic Marian Shrine of Lourdes in South West France for those needing special care.

People who are sick and disabled (whom we call VIPs) are taken to Lourdes, accompanied by a doctor, nurses, a priest and helpers by Jumbulance:  a unique vehicle with ambulance status, specially constructed to carry our VIPs.

Across aims to enable the pilgrims to participate in a spiritual experience, while also enjoying holiday activities and the company of others in changed surroundings.

Friday 29th September 2023 Gold Ribbon Day

Thankyou to everyone who donated and came to our Gold Ribbon Childhood Cancer Charity Cake Sale last Friday. We raised £117.36 for Great Ormond Street. Thankyou for the continued support as always!

Lent 2021 Fundraising at St Cross

Supporting charities is a very important part of Lent, as it reminds us that Jesus has helped us and we should help others by putting their needs before our own.  You don’t have to give a lot of money, the fact you give something is the important thing.

We are inviting our whole school community to get involved in CAFOD’s Walk for Water Challenge and raise money for those who do not have access to water.  You can use your lockdown exercise walks to unite with people like Abdul, Mohammed, and their cousin Abdella, who walks ten hours a day to fetch water.  Abdella lives in Afar, Ethiopia - one of the hottest places on earth. Like hundreds of people in the area, he spends most of every day getting water for his family. With a water point nearer home, his family would no longer have to worry about getting enough to stay alive. And Abdella could start on the dreams he has for the rest of his life.

You could get sponsored by the number of steps, by the distance you walk or by the number of walks.
