Together we grow in God’s love

Our Catholic Life at St Cross School

Our Catholic ethos encompasses all areas of school life and is at the heart of our philosophy of education. We believe that we are created in God’s image. We strive to respect and care for each other and to use our gifts and talents to do our best. By doing this, ‘together we grow in God’s love.’

Religious Education is at the heart of our school. We follow a religious education programme which aims to strengthen our Catholic faith.  The scheme we follow is 'The Way, The Truth and The Life'.

There are many opportunities for all children to explore their faith and deepen their relationship with Christ including daily acts of worship, weekly assemblies, regular liturgies and celebration of Mass.

We value our strong links with parents, our parish of St Augustine’s and the wider community. Our parish priest is a regular and welcome visitor and is a member of the Governing Body.

May Procession 2024

'O Mary, we crown thee with blossoms today,
Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May.'

The month of May is dedicated to Our Lady, Mary. To mark this,  on Friday, Year 3 led our annual May Procession where we crowned a statue of Our Lady with a garland of flowers.  It was a reverent and moving act of worship.

Thank you to parents and pupils for the beautiful flowers you brought in honour of Our Lady.

Advent 2023:

In the Catholic Church, Advent is a period of preparation extending over the four Sundays before Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latin advenio, "to come to," and refers to the coming of Christ. And the term the coming includes three references: first of all, to our celebration of Christ's birth at Christmas; second, to the coming of Christ in our lives through grace and the Sacrament of Holy Communion; and finally, to his second coming at the end of time.

Our preparations, therefore, should have all three comings in mind. We need to prepare our souls to receive Christ worthily.

The whole school and staff gathered together this morning to reflect and celebrate the beginning of Advent.
