The first St Cross Chaplaincy Team was set up in 2012.  Since then, each team has been highly effective in helping our school grow as a community of faith.  Each team has successfully implemented new ideas and children taking on this role find that they not only deepen their faith but develop their skills in communication, group working and time management. 

Each member of the team is formally commissioned as a School Chaplain at a school Mass, with their parents and other parishioners present.  Fr Julian asks for God’s blessing on their work of service to the school. On a Wednesday afternoon, the Chaplaincy Team lead each class in prayer.

Here are some of their achievements:

• Leading Whole School Assemblies

• Leading children in praying the Rosary during May and October in the Peace Garden (Weather permitting)

• Establishing a prayer box and praying for written intentions

• Establishing a Remembrance Prayer Book for the month of November

• Attending Westminster Cathedral for the Advent Service/Good Shepherd Mass

• Sharing with other Chaplaincy Teams in Hertfordshire Catholic Schools

• Making cards for children in Year 3 for their First Holy Communion/Year 6 for their SATs

• Various charity fund-raising events

• Advent and Lent lunchtime club

• Academy Chaplaincy Liturgies

Wednesday Prayers 

Every Wednesday afternoon, we split up into teams and visit each classroom to teach them a prayer from the Prayer Progression document. We teach them a prayer for a full term before teaching them a new one.
