Information for Year 5 Parents
Please help your child by listening to them read for about 20 minutes each night and sign their homework diary on a daily basis. Your involvement is invaluable for supporting your child’s development. In order for children to gain the most out of reading, ask them comprehension questions about the text they’re reading, check their understanding and help them to foster a love of reading.
Spellings will be handed out on a Monday for your child to learn over the week. They will then be tested the following Monday. A hard copy of the spellings will be stuck in your child’s homework book.
Homework will be given out on a Monday to be completed for the following Monday. Your child will receive:
- Spellings (5 topic words and 5 statutory words)
- Times Tables Rockstars (50 games a week).
- For further information on Maths homework, please see the bank of home learning resources (attached below).
They will also have two pieces of RE every half term. In addition to this, across the school, a project based homework will be assigned. It will relate to the current topic being taught in class. Your child should complete at least one of the given projects over the half term to a high standard. During the last week of term, presentations will be held for the children to showcase their hard work.
Year 5 will have PE on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school for these days every week and that children are not sharing kits with siblings.
I will endeavour to organise an enrichment activity for each topic to further engage the children and provide them with a rich learning experience. In addition the children will take part in whole school activities such as our termly Art Day, Science Week and World Book Day.
