St. Cross Catholic Primary School

“Together we grow in God’s love”

Chaplaincy Team

The first St Cross Chaplaincy Team was set up in 2012.  Since then, each team has been highly effective in promoting the Catholic character of St Cross.  Each team has successfully implemented new ideas and children taking on this role find that they not only deepen their faith but develop their skills in communication, group working and time management.

Each member of the team is formally commissioned as a School Chaplain at a Sunday Mass, with their parents and other parishioners present.  Fr Philip asks for God’s blessing on their work of service to the school.

This year’s team are Elizabete, Jada, Ruby, Halle, Evie-Rae, Dominic, Sam, Maya and Evie.

Here are some of their achievements:

  • Leading Key Stage Assemblies

  • Leading children in praying the Rosary during May and October

  • Weekly sharing of the Gospel (Wednesday Word)

  • Establishing a prayer book and praying for written intentions

  • Attending Westminster Cathedral for the Advent Service/Good Shepherd Mass

  • Sharing with other Chaplaincy Teams in Hertfordshire Catholic Schools

  • Making cards for children in Year 3 for their First Holy Communion/Year 6 for their SATs

  • Various charity fund-raising events

  • ‘Saints’ Day’ lunch celebrations
